Have you ever felt dizzy with headache or sleepy after flying to another European or Eastern Country? Perhaps you have suffered Jet lag, a common disease for frequent passengers and cabin crew.

Jet lag is a temporary sickness that causes symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, constipation, confution, difficulty concentrating among others, as a result of flying across time zones. It is considered a circadian rhythm sleep disorder, which is a disruption of the internal body clock. Children and adults can suffer this disease.

Let' s talk about the causes: A time zone is a geographical region

it starts with Grenwich meridian and in total there are 24. Each time zone is one hour more or one hour less depending on the way you go, example. If you are going to go to Los Angeles from Bogota they will be two hours less and if you want to go from Bogota to Madrid, they will be 7 hours more.

Your body clock (circadian rhythm) is get used to the local time zone you live in, so if you travel to another time zone your body is continuing working in the time zone you departed from. Therefore, while your the circadian rhythm adaptates to the new time zone, you suffer jet lag.

The direction of travel matters as well the number of difference hours from your local country, studies confirma that in a lapse no more than two hours the effects of jet lag are minimums.

If you travel eastward the chances of more severe symptoms are more, because the day will seem longer, like if you were traveling to the future. If you land in Paris from Colombia at 10 pm London time, it is still 3pm Colombia hour. However, if you land in Colombia from Paris, at 10pm you will find it easier to get to sleep, because 10pm in Colombia is 3 am in Paris .

Tips to reduce Jet Lag symptoms:

1. Sleeping at night helps recover faster.

2. Do the same routines people do in the country you land.

3. Avoid alcohol and cafeine after flying and during the episodes.

4. Drink water during the flight.

5. Move around the plane.

6. Talk to your doctor if you have already suffered it, for a better prevention and treatment plan.
